Ohio State vs. Maryland odds 2016: Buckeyes are gigantic favorites on the road

The Ohio State Buckeyes are on the road this Saturday to take on the Maryland Terrapins having covered the posted spread in just one of their past five games.

Joe Maiorana-USA TODAY Sports

The Ohio State Buckeyes are 20-1 straight-up and 13-8 against the spread in their last 21 games on the road. The Buckeyes look to continue their road dominance this Saturday afternoon against the Maryland Terrapins.

Ohio State is a 29.5-point road favorite in Annapolis at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. In their last road game against Penn State, the Buckeyes had a 20-game road win streak snapped in a 24-21 loss as a 17.5-point favorite.

For the first time in more than a month, the Buckeyes looked like a legitimate national title contender again in last Saturday’s 62-3 win over the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Coming off an 0-4 ATS stretch that included an outright loss to Penn State and close calls against Wisconsin and Northwestern, Ohio State completely controlled the game against a very good Nebraska team from start to finish.

It was the team’s most impressive win since beating Oklahoma 45-24 back in Week 3, and was a good momentum booster heading into the final three-game stretch of the regular season.

In their last 30 games as a favorite of 28 points or more, the Buckeyes are 30-0 SU and 17-13 ATS per the OddsShark College Football Database. Ohio State is just 2-6 ATS in its last eight games as this large of a favorite.

Betting Line / Total: Ohio State -29.5 / 57.5 Points

Trend: Maryland is 8-2 ATS in its last 10 games after consecutive losses.

Trend: Ohio State is 1-4 ATS in its last five games.

Maryland’s season got off to a promising start with a 4-0 SU and 2-2 ATS record as the team averaged 43.3 points per game on offense and allowed only 14.5 points per game on defense. But since beating Purdue, 50-7, conference play has been extremely rough on the Terrapins, who are just 1-4 SU and ATS in their last five games and allowing 37.4 points per game over that stretch.

The Terrapins got crushed 59-3 against Maryland last week, and upcoming games against Ohio State and Nebraska don’t look like favorable spots to bounce back.

Saturday’s total is set at 57.5 points. The OVER is 13-5 in Maryland’s last 18 games at home.

The Buckeyes have two road games against Maryland and Michigan State standing between them and a showdown against Michigan in rivalry week. How focused Ohio State is on these next two games will likely determine how big they win.
