Have you ever watched a quarterback throw a ball away during a football game and thought: “Throwing it away looks so easy. I could do that.” This may not be the case, as we saw during the Auburn-Georgia game on Saturday afternoon.
This UGA trick play shows how tricky it can be to throw a ball away
This is quite unfortunate.

On a trick play, Georgia wide receiver Terry Godwin took a snap from the wildcat and rolled out to the right. He was looking downfield to pass it. He attempted to throw the ball away, but instead he threw it right into the hands of Auburn defensive back Tray Matthews, who was sitting wide open in the end zone.
Note: Throwing the ball away must be way harder than it looks.
After the play, CBS’s Gary Danielson mentioned that Dawgs head coach Kirby Smart was telling him that Godwin should have thrown it away. Danielson then said Godwin claimed that throw was his attempted throwaway. He probably could have made the ball go out of the end zone if he had thrown it just a liiitle bit harder.
Matthews, who made the pick in the end zone, actually used to be on Georgia’s football team. In June 2014, Matthews was dismissed from the program just a few months after Matthews was charged, along with three other players, with double-dipping scholarship checks.
So the next time you think throwing the ball away is easy, watching this play will show you that it’s probably much harder than it looks.
