Iowa upset No. 3 Michigan on Saturday, part of a series of upsets in the season’s first truly chaotic weekend.
An Iowa fan got so drunk, she traveled 48 years back in time. And more Week 11 awards!
Punters taking over, Kansas trick plays working, FCS teams trolling Michigan, Will Muschamp spreading good cheer, and more!

Via Iowa’s Department of Public Safety, here’s the story of just one fan:
Michelle Keys, 35, of Ankeny, IA was arrested at Kinnick Stadium at 1918 hours for Public Intoxication. She had slurred speech, spoke in incoherent sentences, and believed she was in Ames, IA at the Iowa State v. Arizona football game. She had a .225 BAC.
Iowa City is a two-hour drive from Ames.
And here was the last time Arizona played at Iowa State, 13 years before this Hawkeye fan’s birth.
Shocked Koala play of the week
Saturday officially marked the first chaotic weekend of the college football, and we saw three top-four teams go down in the process. That means at least three plays get the Shocked Koala award this time around.
First: No. 3 Clemson got upset at home, 43-42, by Pitt, thanks to a 48-yard field goal from the Panthers kicker named, ironically, Chris Blewitt. Spoiler alert: He did not blow it.
Iowa upset the Wolverines on a last-second, 33-yard field goal.
And No. 4 Washington lost to No. 20 USC, 26-13, after all-purpose star Adoree’ Jackson made up for this ...
... by having the game-sealing interception ...
... and then doing this:
One more, from a non-upset! West Virginia wide receiver Ka’Raun White made this incredible touchdown catch during a win over Texas while he was being knocked down in the end zone.
The Jig Is Up Award
It was fun while it lasted, Auburn. Before the Tigers’ game against Georgia on Saturday, Auburn still had a chance in the SEC West, with the Iron Bowl still ahead on the schedule. The Tigers thus had an outside shot at the Playoff, too.
But thanks to a 13-7 upset loss suffered at the hands of Georgia, the Tigers are completely out of both races, with Bama clinching the SEC West for the fourth time in five years.
The Do Your Job Award
Remember when Mississippi State-Alabama looked somewhat intriguing, after the Bulldogs upset the then-No. 4 Texas A&M Aggies? Well, the Tide put any chances of an upset away early, going up 30-0 at halftime. Alabama would end up winning, 51-3.
Oh, and it doesn’t hurt for Ohio State to beat Maryland, 62-3, either.
Bottom line: When teams around you fall, it’s probably a good idea to beat down whoever you’re playing just for extra security.
You had one job!
The FS1 telestrator being used by Brady Quinn led Texas fans who were looking at the video board into thinking West Virginia was about to be flagged for having too many men on the field, thus giving the Horns one last chance at victory. That wasn’t the case.
Punters are people, too
OK, mainly this is giant shoutout to Iowa punter Ron Coluzzi. He accounted for three of Iowa’s best plays in the first quarter, but they weren’t given to him easily.
Trailing 3-0, Iowa faced a fourth-and-10 at its own 30-yard line. Coluzzi stood back to boot the ball away, and when Michigan tried to block his punt, Michigan was flagged for a 5-yard running-into-the-kicker foul.
That brought up a fourth-and-5 for the Hawkeyes, cutting the distance to the chains in half. You’d better believe Coluzzi was ready to get those five yards.
He tried a rollout, rugby-style boot. A Michigan player got close to him, and Coluzzi was able to sell it brilliantly. Michigan took another 5-yard penalty, and the Hawkeyes’ drive continued.
Also, he had this fake punt that went terribly wrong.
But he then got fallen on by Michigan’s Devin Bush, who was called for targeting on the play.
Michigan’s targeting foul came after the play was over. But that still gave the Hawkeyes 15 extra yards of field position. If you can do the math, that’s 25 whole yards by a punter, in addition to a solid night of actual punting, with a 47-yard average boot. #COLUZZI4HEISMAN!
Mascot of the Week
Why aren’t robot refs a thing yet?
During Pitt’s game against Clemson, Pitt appeared to score a touchdown on a 101-yard fumble recovery runback.
But replay officials decided Clemson running back Wayne Gallman had crossed Pitt’s goal line before fumbling, and they overturned Pitt’s touchdown and gave it to Clemson.
There was also the refs missing a Dabo Swinney timeout with the Tigers leading 28-27, right before halftime that would have iced Pitt’s kicker on a 55-yard attempt. Blewitt missed the field goal, but if he had had another try, he could have made it and his team would have gone to the locker room with a lead.
There were actually a couple more eyebrow-raising calls from this game that you can read about here, including two that led to Pitt touchdowns.
Box score of the week
FOOTBALL GUY move of the week
Either this, by Hawaii’s Nick Rolovich ...
... or this, by Jim Harbaugh.
Trick plays gone right!
This was a successful week for trick plays, you guys. First, Kansas was able to successfully camouflage a player in the end zone to get a trick play off on a kickoff return.
The play resulted in positive yardage, too!
Then, Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh sneakily put Jabrill Peppers at quarterback and Wilton Speight behind the right guard on a play that resulted in a 6-yard gain.
Side quest of the week
ABC’s Penn State-Indiana broadcast kept cutting back to a group of kids who were trying to liberate some footballs from a tree. It was wonderful.
Troll of the week
FCS dynasty North Dakota State won at Iowa. Michigan, the winningest FBS program of all time, didn’t.
Also, Louisville DB Jaire Alexander celebrated a stop against Wake Forest by ... prancing! He wasn’t even flagged for it.
More positive coaching moments!
Ironically, this award goes to the same head coach, South Carolina’s Will Muschamp. Last week he motivated post-loss Missouri head coach Barry Odom, and now he’s got another award.
His South Carolina team lost to his former team, Florida. After the game, he shared an awesome moment with his former Florida players, which was such a cool thing to see.
