We may have already seen the last of running back Leonard Fournette wearing an LSU Tigers uniform.
Leonard Fournette reportedly out vs. Texas A&M, leaving only LSU’s bowl game in his college career
The draft-eligible junior reportedly didn’t make the trip to College Station this week.

On Wednesday, it was reported by The Advocate that Fournette did not travel with the team to College Station, Texas, where LSU will play its final game of the regular season against Texas A&M on Thursday. Fournette has been dealing with an ankle injury all season, one that’s caused him to miss three games this year. 247Sports later confirmed the report of Fournette missing the game on Wednesday evening.
Last week, prior to LSU’s game against Florida, an on-field shoving match happened between the two teams during warmups. Fournette was dressed in sweats when it all broke out, and he initially wasn’t planning on playing, but decided to suit up in full pads after the scuffle. The junior was limited to just 40 yards on 12 carries in the 16-10 loss to the Gators, still hampered by that ankle injury.
Now, this doesn’t mean Fournette’s LSU career is completely over — LSU’s staff is expecting him to play in the Tigers’ bowl game, but that will obviously remain to be seen, depending on what Fournette’s NFL plans are. As a junior, Fournette is indeed draft eligible.
The ankle injury has put quite a damper on Fournette’s 2016 season. If he does miss the TAMU game, he’ll have missed four games in total, and his best outing came against Ole Miss, when he accounted for 284 yards and three touchdowns. Following a 1,953-yard, 22-touchdown season in 2015, with the missed games he’s only been able to rush for 843 yards and eight touchdowns this year.
Depending on if Fournette plays in the bowl as expected, we may not have seen the last of the running back just yet. If Fournette is out, the Tigers will likely go with backup running back Derrius Guice for the start against the Aggies.
