Memphis literally ripped the helmet off Houston’s QB with this savage facemask

That doesn’t look very fun.

If you’re gonna grasp the facemask, at least get your money’s worth. Memphis’ Ernest Suttles certainly does that here when he brings down Houston’s Greg Ward Jr. by any means necessary.

Immediately after the play, flags came flying in from a least four different officials.

You can hear the announcers talking about an interesting aspect of the play in the video above as well. Thanks to player safety initiatives, players have to leave the game when their helmets pop off. But Ward was allowed to stay because his helmet was ripped off.

If during the down a player’s helmet comes completely off, other than as the direct result of a foul by an opponent, the player must leave the game for the next down. The game clock will stop at the end of the down.

Suttles was immediately taken off the field by Memphis’ coaching staff and could be seen getting a talking-to from a staffer.
