LSU will announce its new coach Saturday. Ed Orgeron and Tom Herman were the finalists
LSU narrows its focus in the search for Les Miles’ permanent replacement.

On Friday morning, Orgeron met with LSU athletic director Joe Alleva for a de-facto job interview, hours after he beat Texas A&M on the road to close LSU’s regular season. LSU had a “very positive” response to the Alleva-Orgeron meeting, a source said.
Orgeron had planned to sell Alleva on the idea of LSU being able to hire an elite offensive coordinator for the 2017 season.
Orgeron went 5-2 in relief of the fired Les Miles, and his players chanted for him to get the permanent job after Thursday’s win at Kyle Field.
Herman’s Houston is playing a game against Memphis on Friday. Herman was a central figure in Thanksgiving night’s national explosion of coaching rumors, but he told ESPN before Houston’s game that he hadn’t been offered any other jobs.
Herman will reportedly interview with Texas on Saturday, after Charlie Strong is formally let go.
Last week, through his representatives, Houston offered Herman a contract “competitive to any Power 5 program,” in an effort to keep him at UH, a source said.
Herman didn’t inform Houston of a departure for any other job before Friday’s game, a source said.
