Iowa jumped to a 13-0 lead in its game against Nebraska on Friday. And if that somehow wasn’t enough to please Hawkeyes fans, this probably was.
Nebraska punt travels 5 yards and into the arms of a happy Iowa fan
Juuuust a little bit short here, Huskers.

Iowa is a place that appreciates special teams. The Hawkeyes’ head coach is noted connoisseur of punts Kirk Ferentz, and Iowa punter Ron Coluzzi established himself a few weeks ago as one of the team’s greatest offensive weapons, when he kept drives alive against Michigan by repeatedly drawing flags on the other team.
So Iowa fans should enjoy it a great deal when an opposing punter hits a punt that travels exactly five yards on the field of play. That’s what Huskers punter Caleb Lightbourn pulled off near the end of the first quarter, when he shanked a punt to such an extent that Nebraska moved from its own 46 to Iowa’s 49-yard line.
As if that might not be enough, Iowa fans also got a souvenir.
In truly Iowa fashion, the Hawkeyes did not score after getting this five-yard gift. They decided to punt from Nebraska’s 42-yard line, netting 26 yards on a boot that was fair-caught. Nobody does special teams like the Big Ten West, folks.
If Iowa wins this game, Wisconsin clinches the Big Ten West.
