In the third quarter of Saturday’s Michigan–Ohio State game, Wolverines linebacker/cornerback/safety/running back/wildcat quarterback collected the first interception of his college career, on a tipped pass from OSU quarterback J.T. Barrett.
Michigan star Jabrill Peppers finally got his first career INT, and it came against Ohio State
That’s a good way to get on the board.
The thing that’s weird about Peppers is that as brilliant as he is, his defensive career numbers aren’t that prolific. Peppers is a terror with the ball in his hands, and teams play away from him pretty often. He also spends a lot of time near the line of scrimmage, so he’s not loaded with opportunities to rack up picks.
Peppers’s greatest value is in his athleticism and versatility.
He’s rarely in the same place for more than a few moments. But in this case, he was in exactly the right place to take a pass away from Ohio State and flip the field for Michigan. The only problem? Michigan’s offense botched a snap inside Ohio State’s 5-yard line, so Peppers’s first pick went sort of, kind of to waste.
At least Michigan still got the field position boost, which got better when Ohio State tried a fake punt deep in its own territory and didn’t get it.
