Georgia Tech pulled a Rivalry Week upset against Georgia in Athens on Saturday, 28-27, on a surprising, quirky, dramatic last-minute touchdown.
Georgia Tech completes a 13-point comeback to beat rival Georgia with this wild TD
The Yellow Jackets shocked Georgia in the nick of time.

Georgia Tech’s winning score was a 6-yard run on what looked like a trick play that wasn’t. Tech quarterback Justin Thomas pitched the ball to running back Qua Searcy, who appeared ready to throw the ball back to Thomas, who was hooking around toward the end zone.
But Searcy tucked the ball and ran with it, and he knifed toward UGA’s goal line. Searcy dove into a hoard of Bulldog defenders and broke the plane for the decisive score, officials ruled. He lost the ball at some point, but officials said he controlled it until breaking the plane. Touchdown Yellow Jackets to cap a furious second-half comeback.
Georgia led 27-14 entering the fourth quarter, and the Jackets stormed all the way back. An extra point from kicker Harrison Butker made it 28-27 with 30 seconds left. That turned out to be the final, and Georgia’s season ended in a special brand of heartbreak when a last-gasp response drive fell short.
Georgia finished 7-5 in the regular season in Kirby Smart’s first year. Mark Richt was fired after last year’s 10-3 mark.
Georgia Tech finished 8-4 under Paul Johnson.
After more research: Georgia had never lost to Florida, Georgia Tech, Tennessee, and Vanderbilt in one season prior to 2016. History!
