Penn State’s offense is unquestionably led by running back Saquon Barkley. Despite limited yardage output during the Michigan State game, Barley did have an early TD. But late in the third quarter, he had a 3-yard carry that may end up changing the course of the Big Ten this season.
Saquon Barkley injury: Penn State star RB out for game with ankle injury

Barkley went down with what appears to be a lower leg injury. While he jogged off on his own power, he would not return to the game, and could be seen being consoled on the sideline by QB Trace McSorley.
ESPN reported that the trainers iced his right ankle, and there’s no doubt that this is a huge story to watch as the Nittany Lions prepare for the conference title game.
After the game, James Franklin sounded pretty confident that Barkley would be ready to roll in the conference title game. But it’s actually his typical response to postgame injury inquiries.
“I’m not going to talk about Saquon,” head coach James Franklin said. It’s a standard answer to questions about injured players immediately after a game.
“He’ll have a great week and prepare and be ready to play this week based on what I know.”
Barkley leads the Big Ten in rushing yards-per-game (109.5) and is second in rushing TDs (14). He had 216 rushing attempts coming into the Michigan State game, and no other Penn State running back had more than 26 rushes. McSorely does his fair share as well, but Barkley is the main mail-toter when it comes to the Penn State offense.
We’ll update as we know more.
