On Saturday, No. 1 Alabama beat No. 13 Auburn, 30-12, to finish the regular season undefeated. The only Auburn scores: four field goals. The victory puts a bow on an outstanding regular season for the Tide.
Bama went more than a month without giving up a TD. Then the Tide played ... Florida?
No, really!

The defense has been outstanding all season, giving up an average of just 11 points per game, which ranks No. 1 in the country. And it’s only getting stingier.
Oct. 22, during the third quarter against Texas A&M, marks the last time that the Alabama defense gave up a touchdown. The Aggies lost, 33-14.
The scores since:
- Alabama 10, LSU 0
- Alabama 51, Mississippi State 3
- Alabama 31, Chattanooga 3
- Alabama 30, Auburn 12
That’s not the world’s greatest group of offenses, but the Tigers have broken school single-game offensive records in the past two months and just put 54 points on Texas A&M. Mississippi State just dropped 55 on Ole Miss, and Auburn scored 56 on Arkansas earlier this year, when it was healthier at QB. Chattanooga’s an FCS team and just advanced to the second round of the FCS Playoffs.
In the SEC title game, the streak came to an end. The Gators clinched the SEC East with a 16-10 victory over LSU. UF averages just 25 points per game and on Saturday, for the second year in a row, didn’t score any touchdowns on offense in a loss to Florida State.
But improbably, Florida drove the ball right down the field of the first drive of the game and punched it in with this TD.
Alabama’s defense also has scored a touchdown since the last one it allowed. In the third quarter against A&M, Jonathan Allen scored on a 30-yard fumble return. The score marked the 12th nonoffensive touchdown for the Tide this season.
Bama has a ton of defensive stars, as always, including linebacker Reuben Foster and defensive lineman Allen. The two have combined for 135 total tackles, and they also have 20 quarterback hurries this season. Linebacker Tim Williams leads the team with eight sacks.
Allen is a finalist for the Bednarik Award, which is given to college football’s best defensive player. His 25 career sacks are good enough for second on the Tide’s all-time list behind former Alabama linebacker and NFL Hall of Famer Derrick Thomas.
