Believe it or not, the college football regular season has pretty much come to an end. But as we enter the second week of December, there’s still a lot of football stuff happening this weekend, including Army-Navy, the Heisman Trophy ceremony, playoffs in the FCS, semifinals in Division II and Division III, and a new ESPN 30 for 30 documentary on the Miami-Notre Dame rivalry in the 1980s.

The headliner, among games: Army-Navy! The two play this weekend each year, and given that it’s the only FBS game of the weekend and loaded with tradition, it’s usually an exciting affair. Navy has been able to win the last 14 games in this series, but this could potentially be the year Army snaps the losing streak. Starting Navy quarterback Will Worth got knocked out of the game last week against Temple, and backup Zach Abey threw two picks in a 34-10 loss to Temple. And we can’t forget that Army is wearing some sick all-black unis, and Navy will sport these “BEAT ARMY” threads wearing some sick uniforms, too.
There’s also the FCS playoffs that will be on both Friday and Saturday. There are eight teams left, including five-time FCS national champion North Dakota State. The game should be interesting, as South Dakota State handed NDSU its only loss of the season this year.
Three of the four quarterfinal games next weekend are on Saturday, but JMU-Sam Houston State kicked off on Friday evening.
Saturday’s game will also be Verne Lundquist and Gary Danielson’s last broadcast together on CBS, as Lundquist is retiring from broadcasting after this season. Seeing him in the booth for a final time should be a touching moment for anyone who’s an Uncle Verne fan.
Lastly, Heisman! The award given to college football’s most outstanding player will be handed out on Saturday night, starting at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN. Louisville’s Lamar Jackson is the expected favorite, but Clemson’s Deshaun Watson, Michigan’s Jabrill Peppers, and Oklahoma’s Baker Mayfield and Dede Westbrook will also be under the lights of New York City for the ceremony.
