Navy fell behind against Army on Saturday, 14-0, in large part because sophomore quarterback Zach Abey struggled at the outset of his first career start.
Navy’s QB rips off 41-yard TD to go up on Army in his first career start
Zach Abey’s had an up-and-down game. Here’s a big up.

By the fourth quarter, Abey wasn’t struggling nearly as much.

Having already found the end zone once, Abey had gotten the Midshipmen back to within 14-10. Then he galloped 41 yards for a go-ahead touchdown, staking Navy to its first lead of the day. It was a triple-option play, and Abey made all the right reads, keeping the ball instead of handing it off to his fullback or pitching it to a slotback. He broke two tackles, too, for a degree-of-difficulty bonus.
Once Abey got upfield, the Black Knights couldn’t do anything at all about it. That’s a gorgeous football play in a critical spot, and Abey should remember it for the rest of his existence — no matter the result of this legendary rivalry game.
