THE NEW MEXICO BOWL: an odd game that helps kick off bowl season every year. Seeing as this is a game in the desert in December, unusual weather is to be expected at times. For this year’s New Mexico–UTSA meeting, it’s 30 mph crosswind.
The New Mexico Bowl is so windy, it’s almost hard to watch
The cameras are shaking like this is Cloverfield, the goalposts are swaying, and the field goal nets are going crooked.

The shaky sideline camera view looks like what happens in Madden or NCAA when the game wants you to feel the pressure in a tough road environment. (You can see the ESPN chyron in the upper left corner, which shows we didn’t modify this.)
ESPN also showed how hard of a time the kickers were having during pregame.
UTSA nailed its first field goal try of the day, but the ensuing kickoff howled out of bounds.
The wind is so game-changing, New Mexico called a time out at the end of the first quarter that appeared to be for no reason other than to be sure its extra point kick and kickoff would be backed by friendly wind.
Goalposts are swaying, cameras are jiggling, and passes and kicks are going awry, but all will persevere. A handmade piece of pottery awaits the victor.
