Big Ten Championship Game 2016 odds: Penn State the underdog vs. Wisconsin

The Penn State Nittany Lions are betting underdogs at the sportsbooks against the Wisconsin Badgers in the Big Ten Championship game Saturday night.

Rich Barnes-USA TODAY Sports

The Penn State Nittany Lions are 8-0 straight up and 7-0-1 against the spread over their last eight games. The Nittany Lions hope to pick up a ninth straight win and their first Big Ten title since 2008 with a win over the Wisconsin Badgers in Saturday’s Big Ten Championship game.

Penn State is a 2.5-point underdog at Lucas Oil Stadium at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. In the team's last five games against teams with winning records, the Nittany Lions are 5-0 SU.

The Nittany Lions started their season off with a 2-2 SU and 1-3 ATS record that included a 42-39 loss to Pittsburgh and a 49-10 blowout loss to Michigan. If not for that loss to Pittsburgh, Penn State would almost certainly be playing for a spot in the College Football Playoff this Saturday as the Nittany Lions have been one of the best teams in college football since the start of October.

Penn State has covered the spread in each of its last seven games including two outright upsets. Over the last five meetings between these two Big Ten rivals, Penn State is 4-1 SU and ATS per the OddsShark College Football Database.

Betting Line / Total: Wisconsin -2.5 / 47.5 Points

Trend: Wisconsin is 1-4 SU and ATS in its last five games against Penn State.

Trend: Penn State is 7-0 ATS in its last seven games.

Wisconsin has been one of the most consistent moneymakers in all of college football this season with a 10-2 SU and 9-2-1 ATS record over the course of the regular season. The Badgers’ only two losses of the season came against Michigan and Ohio State, and both of those games were decided by just a touchdown. Since the Ohio State loss, the Badgers are 6-0 SU and 4-1-1 ATS over their last six games.

Saturday night’s total is set at 47.5 points. The OVER is 8-0 in the last eight games Wisconsin has played in Week 14.

The Badgers and the Nittany Lions have a tough act to follow after last Saturday’s Michigan vs. Ohio State game, but these two teams have earned the right to play in this championship game. The winner of this game will not only be the Big Ten champion, but will also have a strong claim to deserving a spot in the College Football Playoff after coming out on top of the deepest conference in college football this season.
