Clemson tried dropping all 11 men into coverage and rushing nobody. It didn’t work.

This was weird.

Well, this is certainly something you don’t see very often in college football. Virginia Tech was faced with 3rd and 9 from its own 26 yard line, and Clemson decided to drop all 11 guys on defense, which gave Tech QB Jerod Evans a plethora of time to throw. He threw a deep ball downfield, and it was caught by Bucky Hodges for a 42-yard catch to get well into Clemson territory.

Bold strategy, Cotton! The big play resulted in a Hokie touchdown on the drive, so there will likely be some questions surrounding defensive coordinator Brent Venables’ call on the play. Virginia Tech scored a touchdown to open the fourth quarter and made it a one-score game, as they’ve been able to hang around all night.

You gotta give the Hokies credit for keeping things entertaining.
