For three minutes, Alabama was losing in the biggest game of the season.
Let’s appreciate Washington taking a Playoff lead on Alabama for 3 minutes before losing
It was fun while it lasted.
(That didn’t last long.)
Washington quarterback Jake Browning found receiver Dante Pettis in the corner of the Tide’s end zone in the first quarter of the Peach Bowl Playoff semifinal on Saturday. Pettis beat Tide defensive back Marlon Humphrey to the ball, and he got a couple of feet down to secure a 16-yard score. 7-0, Huskies.
This lead turned out to last exactly three minutes. It came with 8:01 left in the first quarter, and Bama’s Bo Scarborough scored a counter-touchdown with 5:01 on the clock. There was still plenty of time left to go, and it takes more than one touchdown drive to beat the Tide. (Washington’s was eight plays and 64 yards in 3:51.)
Scoring first against the Tide only gets you so far.
After Saturday, make that combined score 139-38.
Washington fans had reason to be confident ...
... but Alabama does bad things to confident people.
