No. 1 Alabama sat on No. 4 Washington in the Peach Bowl, 24-7, advancing to the National Championship for the second time in the College Football Playoff’s three-year history and the fifth time since 2009.
2016 National Championship game info: Alabama vs. Clemson in title game rematch
The College Football Playoff’s finale will be in Tampa on Jan. 9.

No. 2 Clemson then annihilated No. 3 Ohio State in the Fiesta Bowl, one of the worst losses in decades for the Buckeyes and perhaps the worst loss of Urban Meyer’s career.
The two winners will meet in Tampa on Monday, Jan. 9, at 8 p.m. ET. It’ll be Florida’s first time hosting the Playoff’s Championship after its first two years went to Jerryworld, Texas and Glendale, Arizona.
It’s a rematch of the 2015 season’s glorious championship game, which made a college legend of Deshaun Watson (who’s still Clemson’s QB) and showed just how great of a champion Bama is.
The advanced stat S&P+ gives Bama a 69.4 percent chance of winning the rematch, based on pre-bowl ratings.
Undefeated Bama’s attempting to erase any remaining doubts that it’s created the greatest dynasty in the sport’s history. The one-loss Tigers are attempting to finish the job.
The Tide entered Atlanta as massive, two-touchdown favorites against the Huskies, with college football media and statistical models nearly unanimous in picking Bama to reach the Championship. Running back Bo Scarbrough, the entire defense, and punter JK Scott were the day’s stars.
As for Clemson, their performance against the Buckeyes was so overwhelming, I pressed publish on this well before that game ended. Ohio State couldn’t run at all until the fourth quarter, the Tigers gave up a couple turnovers to no effect, and the two teams did not appear to be on the same level at any point.
