Nevada may have found its next head coach. Late Wednesday night, Football Scoop reported that Arizona State wide receivers and passing game coach Jay Norvell will be the next head coach at Nevada.
Report: Jay Norvell to be named Nevada’s next head coach
Nevada parted ways with head coach Brian Polian two weeks ago.

Norvell recently completed his first season as wide receivers coach and offensive passing game coordinator at Arizona State. Prior to that, Norvell accumulated a long list of offensive coordinator experience at Nebraska, UCLA, Oklahoma and Texas.
On Nov. 27, Nevada announced that it would be “mutually parting ways” with Brian Polian, who compiled a 23-27 record as the Wolf Pack head coach over four seasons.
The Sun Devils finished this season ranked 64th in Passing S&P+, and put up 33 points per game.
Here’s SB Nation’s House of Sparky on the hire.
Norvell has a lengthy list of coaching experience.
Since 1988, his position coach stops include Northern Iowa, Wisconsin, Iowa State, the Indianapolis Colts, and the Oakland Raiders. Norvell later served as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Nebraska and UCLA prior to holding stints at Oklahoma and Texas before moving on to Arizona State last offseason.
Nevada will mark the first head-coaching job of Norvell’s career.
Prior to taking the job at Arizona State, Norvell was the wide receivers coach at Texas, where he went after six seasons under Bob Stoops at Oklahoma. In 2007, he was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at UCLA.
We will continue to update this story as it develops.
