Noted visor-wearer and head football coach Steve Spurrier was at college football’s big awards show on Thursday night in Atlanta because it was a big, fancy college football event, and big, fancy college football events are not the same without him there.
Steve Spurrier struggled to take a selfie with a trophy, but he’s already improving
The second video shows clear progress.

Spurrier was at one point set on getting a selfie with one of the night’s most prestigious trophies: the one for the Contributions to College Football Award, which Spurrier happened to be getting on Thursday.
Spurrier did not succeed in finding the best angle for the selfie. He eventually moved to the onetime standard approach of having a non-photographed person take the photograph. SB Nation’s Morgan Moriarty captured the byproduct.
But then, over the weekend:
Spurrier retired from coaching in 2015 and is currently in an athletic department position at Florida, which is great. Other delightful recent Spurrier sightings include as a College GameDay guest picker at Tennessee back in the fall and, on Thursday, having his portrait painted during a live musical performance as a clearly nonplussed Nick Saban looked on. This is all fine.
