Clemson football players went nuts when Coastal Carolina won the College World Series

Palmetto State pride!

Clemson and Coastal Carolina aren’t really rivals on any field, despite sharing the Palmetto State. So it’s understandable as a bit of South Carolina solidarity that Clemson’s football players huddled to watch the underdog Chants play Arizona in Thursday’s decisive Game 3 of the College World Series championship series -- and even better that they went nuts after the final pitch, as this video from wide receiver Artavis Scott shows.

Clemson routed the Chanticleers, 49-3, in their only football meeting in 2009, and it’s safe to say that Coastal Carolina, which will play FBS football beginning in the fall of 2017, isn’t a major threat to the Tigers on the gridiron.

It is true, though, that both South Carolina and Coastal Carolina now have College World Series titles in just this decade. Clemson’s never won one despite 12 trips, the second-most among teams without a national title to Florida State’s 21. The Tigers also fell to Coastal, 9-5, in their last meeting, a midweek game in 2015.

So, uh, solidarity is nice and all -- but the baseball team might not have been so happy.
