Stanford vs. Washington 2016 odds: Huskies favored for first time in nearly a decade

The Stanford Cardinal and Washington Huskies put their winning streaks on the line on Friday, with the Huskies small home favorites.

Kelvin Kuo-USA TODAY Sports

The Stanford Cardinal are 7-1 straight up and 5-3 against the spread in their last eight games against the Washington Huskies. The Cardinal will try to keep that dominance going on the road against the Huskies this Friday night.

Stanford is a 2.5-point underdog on the road at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. This is the first time since 2008 that the Cardinal have been an underdog against the Huskies, going off as a favorite of a touchdown or more in each of the last seven meetings between these two teams.

On a night that the Cardinal offense couldn’t get much going, the defense shined in a 22-13 road win over the UCLA Bruins last week. UCLA led 10-3 at the end of the first half and 10-6 at the end of the third quarter, but Stanford’s defense kept the team in the game long enough for the offense to manufacture a go-ahead touchdown drive ending with 24 seconds left on the clock.

A sack fumble resulting in a 42-yard return for a touchdown was icing on the cake for a defense that has held opponents to just 12 points per game this season.

The Cardinal play their best against strong competition, boasting a 12-1 SU and 10-3 ATS record in their last 13 games against teams with winning records.

Betting Line / Total: Washington -2.5 / 44 Points

Trend: Stanford is 1-3 ATS in its last four games against Washington.

Trend: Washington is 7-0 SU and 5-2 ATS in its last seven games.

In head coach Chris Peterson's third year at the helm of the Huskies, this Washington team looks like it could be the first since 2000 to finish with a double-digit win total. The Huskies are 7-0 SU and 5-2 ATS over their last seven games, according to the OddsShark College Football Database, looking particularly strong on offense this season averaging 45.8 points per game.

Washington survived its first road test of the season last Saturday at Arizona, but will face a season-defining stretch over its next five games with Friday’s game against Stanford and road games at Oregon, Utah, and California.

Friday’s total is set at 44 points. The UNDER is 9-3 in the last 12 games between Washington and Stanford.

Stanford is 7-0 SU and 6-1 ATS in its last seven games and has been the Pac-12’s most consistent contender over the last four years. If the Cardinal can pick up an upset win on the road this week it could pave the way to a Playoff spot in 2016.
