Louisville vs. Clemson 2016 odds: Road Cardinals favored after big opening line swing

The Louisville Cardinals will face one of the biggest tests on their schedule this Saturday as road favorites against the Clemson Tigers.

Aaron Doster-USA TODAY Sports

The Louisville Cardinals are a perfect 6-0 straight up and against the spread over their last six games. The Cardinals can take command of the ACC this Saturday with a road win over the Clemson Tigers.

Louisville is a 2-point favorite in Clemson at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. Consistent betting action on Louisville this week has moved the line five full points from its opener, which had Clemson as a 3-point favorite at home.

Lamar Jackson and the Cardinals dominated in the month of September, averaging 63.5 points per game over a 4-0 SU and ATS start.

In a spot that lesser teams might have come out flat last week on the road against Marshall in a game sandwiched between games against Florida State and Clemson, Louisville avoided a letdown in a 59-28 win, leading by a score of 52-7 at the end of the third quarter. The Cardinals have won every game this season by at least 31 points.

The Cardinals enter Saturday's game with an 8-7 SU and 11-4 ATS record in their last 15 road games against ACC opponents per the OddsShark College Football Database.

Betting Line / Total: Louisville -2 / 67.5 Points

Trend: Clemson is 18-0 SU in its last 18 games at home.

Trend: The total has gone OVER in eight of Louisville’s last nine games.

With a pair of six-point victories over Auburn and Troy, Deshaun Watson and the Tigers got off to a slow start to the season with an 0-2 ATS record. But over the last two weeks, the team has looked much stronger, going 2-0 SU and ATS with a 59-0 win over South Carolina State and then a 26-7 road win over Georgia Tech.

The game against Georgia Tech came on Thursday night, which gave the Tigers an extra couple of days to prepare for Louisville. Clemson is 9-0 in its last nine home games against conference foes.

Saturday’s total is set at 67.5. The OVER is 8-1 in Louisville’s last nine games.

If the Cardinals win this game, they will all but lock up the ACC Atlantic with no losses and tiebreakers over Clemson and Florida State. Clemson must win this game at home to keep control of its destiny in the ACC and its chances of returning to the College Football Playoff alive and well.
