Tennessee vs. Georgia 2016 odds: Volunteers are road favorites in Athens

The Tennessee Volunteers will be looking to extend a 10-game winning streak Saturday as small road favorites against the Georgia Bulldogs.

Randy Sartin-USA TODAY Sports

The Tennessee Volunteers are 10-0 straight up and 6-4 against the spread in their last 10 games since losing to Alabama last October. The Volunteers can keep their winning streak going this Saturday with a road win over the Georgia Bulldogs.

Tennessee is a 3-point road favorite this week at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. Last season, the Volunteers were a 2.5-point underdog at home when they faced Georgia and came away with a 38-31 victory.

Through the first three games of the season, Tennessee was wildly inconsistent, showing flashes of brilliance against Virginia Tech while looking pedestrian in wins over Appalachian State and Ohio.

That inconsistency was on full display last Saturday against Florida in a game that saw the Volunteers trail 21-3 after an ugly first half but win 38-28 after a brilliant 35-0 run in the second half. Joshua Dobbs finished the day with 399 total yards and five total touchdowns, passing for four and rushing for one.

In the team’s last seven games against SEC opponents, Tennessee is 6-1 SU and ATS per the OddsShark College Football Database.

Betting Line / Total: Tennessee -3 / 52.5 Points

Trend: Tennessee is 4-0 ATS in its last four games against Georgia.

Trend: The total has gone UNDER in 10 of Georgia’s last 11 games.

Georgia looked shaky in narrow wins at home against Nicholls State and on the road against Missouri, but that poor level of play didn’t come close to being enough last Saturday against a team of Ole Miss’ caliber. Mississippi crushed Georgia 45-14, dropping the Bulldogs to 0-3 ATS over its last three games in the process.

Making matters worse for Georgia, running back Nick Chubb injured his ankle in the loss, and will be at less than 100% if he is able to start this week against Tennessee. Georgia is 1-6-1 ATS in its last eight Week 5 games.

Saturday’s total is set at 52.5 points. The OVER is 4-0 in the last four games between these two teams.

With Georgia not playing at a high level this season and Chubb limited in practice this week, a road win is ripe for the taking for the Volunteers. Tennessee has the talent to blow the Bulldogs out like Ole Miss did last week, but it can’t afford to take long stretches of the game off this week on the road against a quality team.
