On Monday, it was announced that Alabama offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin would not be coaching the Tide during the College Football Playoff National Championship Game against Clemson. He later explained what went into his departure from Alabama prior to the game, saying it was difficult to balance both jobs as Bama’s OC and the new FAU head coach.
Nick Saban says Lane Kiffin won’t be at Alabama’s game against Clemson
Well, there goes that.

Less than 24 hours later though, Kiffin indicated that he may end up being at the game after all.
A few hours later, Alabama head coach Nick Saban was asked about having Kiffin in either the booth or on the sideline. Saban quickly squashed those rumors.
A report surfaced later Monday regarding the reasoning for Kiffin not being able to be on the sidelines or in the booth during the game.
Kiffin gave reassurance for Steve Sarkisian, who will call the Tide’s game on Monday, and retain the title of offensive coordinator for the 2017 season, during his interview with Paul Finebaum.
Given that Kiffin wouldn’t be doing any actual coaching if he were to attend the game, it seemed a little odd for the idea to be floated out in the first place.
