Update: The game’s delayed until after 1 p.m. ET, due to lightning. It’ll still be on FS1 and Fox Sports Go.

The Horned Frogs (5-0) are currently on top of the conference following a hard-fought 31-24 win over West Virginia. They also benefited from Oklahoma stumbling at home against Iowa State, leaving them as the only undefeated team in the Big 12. As such, Gary Patterson’s team could be in serious contention for a College Football Playoff spot, and TCU has a convincing road win over Oklahoma State to boost its resume. The Horned Frogs are cruising along in the usual Patterson manner, with a stifling defense that’s tough to crack, even against the most high-flying attacks the Big 12 has to offer.
The Wildcats (3-2) entered the season with some sleeper hype, but it’s been a disappointing campaign for Bill Snyder and his players so far. They dropped to 3-2 after a heartbreaking overtime loss to Texas, and their other loss of the season was a head-scratching 14-7 defeat to Vanderbilt. That said, Kansas State still sports a talented squad that should be a tough out most weeks.
The hard part of the schedule is just starting, with TCU on Saturday followed by Oklahoma next week and a trip to Texas Tech in three weeks. Kansas State doesn’t have much margin for error if it hopes to climb back into the conference title picture.

TCU vs. Kansas State news
- Bill Snyder turned 78 last week, so the Longhorns did a nice thing for him:
On Saturday, the Texas Longhorns defeated the Kansas State Wildcats, 40-34, in double overtime. The date of the game happened to be K-State head coach Bill Snyder’s 78th birthday.
For the occasion, the Longhorns decided to give Snyder a big birthday card before kickoff — the card was signed by head coach Tom Herman and other members of the Texas team. It made for a pretty sweet gesture.
- Bring on the Cats wasn’t happy with the coaching issues that led to K-State’s overtime loss:
The personnel decisions are questionable, as noted above. The clock management in the final minute was absurd and atrocious. The play-calling is baffling and bizarre, including the final indignity — calling a short-side run by Barnes on 2nd and 23 in the second overtime. We’re just at a loss.
And while everyone happily blames Dana Dimel and Tom Hayes for everything, let’s call this what it is. The man at the top is responsible. It’s even embedded indelibly in the 16 goals.
- Just how good is TCU this year, and how far can it go? Frogs O’ War tackles that debate.
I think this team can win on the road in Norman and Lubbock in back to back weeks, make it to Arlington for the Big 12 Championship Game, and win the conference to get into the Final Four. But I don’t necessarily think that should be the expectation. Ten wins and a berth in an upper-tier bowl is probably about right, especially factoring in the injury issues on both sides of the ball.
TCU vs. Kansas State prediction
The Horned Frogs are rolling, and we’re still trying to figure out Kansas State. Look for Patterson and his players to stay sharp on the road and eke out a strong, workmanlike victory.
