Week 8 of the college football season came and went with few surprises, unlike the week prior. The only two games with ranked teams losing: Penn State rolled over Michigan in white-out conditions, and Notre Dame looks like a legitimate Playoff team after destroying USC. Penn State has a case for No. 1, but previous AP No. 1 Alabama somehow covered a 37-point spread against Tennessee, so expect no changes there. Both human polls have the Tide unanimous No. 1.

Miami, TCU, UCF, USF, and Wisconsin remain unbeaten, while Michigan State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, and West Virginia survived tight challenges.

The first College Football Playoff selection committee rankings don’t come out until Halloween, and until then, the best barometer we have is the AP Top 25. No rankings really matter until the committee’s, but at the very least, the rankings give us a good idea of where teams stand until then.
