Dalvin Cook’s 4-star RB brother, James, officially signing with Georgia after Florida State decommitment and late push

UGA just got more good news.

Four-star class of 2018 running back James Cook announced his college decision back in October, and said Wednesday he’d officially sign with Georgia.

Cook was previously committed to Florida State, where his older brother, Dalvin, is the all-time leading rusher. It’s not fair to expect James Cook or any other running back prospect to be Dalvin, one of the best college rushers in recent memory. But James is a star in his own right, with offers from all over the country.

The Seminoles were reportedly back in on Cook under new head coach Willie Taggart, but he decided to stay with the Dawgs.

Georgia pitched Cook on playing in a hybrid role as a receiver and running back, where he’ll be able to split out wide and catch passes, a la Marshall Faulk. Cook has the athleticism to line up anywhere and be an effective playmaker.

Cook’s signing is a boom to an already loaded UGA class.

Cook was the top uncommitted running back in the country at the time of his signing, according to the 247Sports Composite, and finished the cycle as the No. 3 RB overall.

No. 1 is North Carolina’s Zamir White, who committed to Georgia in June. With Cook, the Dawgs’ running backs room will be stacked. Getting two backs of that caliber in one class is something you’re only supposed to do in EA Sports’ NCAA Football.

Georgia started the 2018 cycle slowly, but business has picked up as the Dawgs have put together a dominating 2017 season. Alabama’s coming eventually, but the Tide have moved deliberately.

UGA got a commitment earlier in October from the country’s No. 1 overall recruit, in-state quarterback Justin Fields. The Dawgs’ talent accumulation on offense has been impressive, with all of this coming on top of last year’s No. 3 overall class.
