In the second quarter of Eastern Michigan’s game against Northern Illinois, the Eagles took a 14-7 lead over the Huskies on a blocked punt by Eastern Michigan receiver Matthew Sexton. The blocked punt was then recovered in the end zone behind NIU’s punter by Jaron Johnson to give EMU a 14-7 lead, which held at halftime.
Eastern Michigan blocked an NIU punt for a TD to take the lead
Not a bad way to score.

The blocked punt is the first blocked punt that resulted in a touchdown for the Eagles since 2014.
This isn’t the first time Eastern Michigan has had success defensively on special teams against the Huskies. During last year’s 31-24 NIU OT victory, the Eagles blocked a 36-yard field goal attempt early in the game.
The 14-7 lead held until halftime, with the Eagles missing a 50-yard field goal with 1:26 left in the first half.
Eastern Michigan ended up losing in overtime, but this was a nice way to score its second touchdown of the night.
