Two bad SEC teams could make for some great football Saturday.

The Arkansas Razorbacks aren’t having a very good 2017. That won’t matter on Saturday; neither are the Ole Miss Rebels. Two occasional SEC West powerhouses will meet to compare whose season is worse Saturday. Kickoff is set for noon ET and will be broadcast live on the SEC Network (live stream).

The Razorbacks are 0-4 in conference play as the heat grows under head coach Bret Bielema’s seat. The Rebels, in their first season without former coach Hugh Freeze, are 1-3 against SEC foes thanks to a matchup against the crumbling trench formerly known as the Vanderbilt defense. These two extremely movable objects are set to meet in Oxford, where the loser will be banished to the SEC West basement.

Arkansas at Ole Miss news:

Ole Miss quarterback Shea Patterson left with an injury in the first half of the Rebels’ game against LSU on Saturday, with a right knee injury. Sunday morning, reports started surfacing that Patterson will be done for the year.

Then the teacher asked a cutting question.

“What if your parents were both losers?”

And the girl shot back.

“Well, then I would be a Razorback.”

Still, these teams for whatever reason get up for each other, and they could pull out some real dull daggers on Saturday. They hate each other, but not enough to really murder the other, because they’re too alike. They share Houston Nutt, after all, and that stain is too embarrassing to insult the other over.

In the first half, Arkansas had six penalties (five were by the offensive line), went 0-7 on third downs, and muffed a punt after forcing a three and out. Do all of those things and you can kiss any chance of winning goodbye.

What will Mississippi do without starting quarterback Shea Patterson?

Patterson’s big-play ability had been a silver lining in an otherwise gray season. In each of his seven games this fall, he’s had a completion of at least 37 yards and four that sprang for 50+. Now he’s gone, and junior college transfer Jordan Ta’amu will have to impress in his place. While he completed seven of his 11 passes against LSU last week, that solid performance also came in a game that had already been decided.

Arkansas vs. Ole Miss prediction:

The Razorbacks need a win to save Bret Bielema’s bacon, and the Mississippi defense might be all they need to find a spark. Arkansas pulls off the minor upset here by finally dropping its offense into gear.
