Lane Kiffin points out the true fact that FAU has more wins than Florida and FSU combined

Hello darkness, my old friend.

Things are just a bit lopsided in the state of Florida when it comes to college football.

The Florida State Seminoles went to 3-6 on the season, and the Florida Gators have the same record as we enter the second-to-last week of the regular season. Yes, that brings the two rivals’ records to a combined 6-12.

The other Florida state schools, however, are dominating. Miami, UCF, South Florida, FIU, and FAU are a combined 39-7 on the season — that’s 33 more wins than the Gators and Noles combined. On Monday, Owls head coach Lane Kiffin brought up this irony during his press conference:

My god, this is something.

As my colleague Richard Johnson pointed out last week, that Florida-FSU game in two weeks could definitely end up being a battle of bowl eligibility for these two teams:

Miami, UCF, and USF are making New Year’s Six runs. FAU and FIU are C-USA East contenders. Meanwhile, the loser of Florida and Florida State might miss the postseason entirely.

Oh, and Florida rival Georgia could make the Playoff. Oh, and FSU rival Clemson could make the Playoff.

Let me take you back to 1978. I’ll save you all the “gas was X dollars, and the song at the top of that charts was Y” crap, and just make this point: 1978 was the last year both Florida and Florida State missed bowl season.

FIU and FAU have both reached bowl eligibility, UCF is 9-0 with a New Years Six bowl possible as a Group of Five berth, and the Miami Hurricanes are 9-0 with the ACC Coastal already clinched. Kiffin’s Owl offense is more potent than the Noles and Gators combined, basically.

Florida cut ties with head coach Jim McElwain last month, and interim head coach Randy Shannon has gone winless since. At least FSU’s last victory has come during this month, with the Noles’ 27-24 win over Syracuse two weeks ago.

Hope you’re staying nice and hydrated this season, Florida and FSU fans.
