During Tuesday night’s game between the Ohio Bobcats and the Akron Zips, Ohio scored its second touchdown of the night on a gorgeously executed trick play. While Ohio quarterback Nathan Rourke started calling audibles, the ball was snapped, catching Akron’s defense completely off-guard. It was then pitched to receiver Brendan Cope, who found a wide open Rourke in the end zone:
Ohio took a page out of Navy’s playbook on this trick play touchdown
We recently saw this during the Midshipmen’s game against Temple.

This may seem familiar to you, and that’s because the Navy Midshipmen ran this exact same play a couple of weeks ago against Temple!
And a couple years ago, the Patriots ran it:
The thing that makes this play so successful is how wide open the quarterback is, giving him a clear shot to the end zone to be able to catch the pass.
Tuesday night’s game in Akron is ending up to be a shootout, with the Zips up 30-24 toward the end of the second quarter — might wanna head over to ESPN2 for some exciting #MACtion! If we’re lucky, maybe we’ll see some more plays like this.
