Well, this is one of the most incredible punts I’ve ever seen. In the second quarter of Idaho’s game against the Troy Trojans, Vandals punter Cade Coffey was getting ready to punt on fourth down. Unfortunately, the snap sailed over his head a good 13 yards — Coffey recovered it, and just as he got nailed by a defender, he somehow got the punt off:
How in the world did Idaho’s punter belt this ball 54 yards while getting hit mid-punt?!
Can he get some kind of award for this?

GUYS THIS PUNT ENDED UP GOING 54 YARDS FROM THE SPOT OF THE KICK AND DOWNED AT TROY’S 41. HOW?!
One thing in his favor: once he got the ball off, the returner was going to have a tough time tracking it down anyway, because of the unusual angle and launch point. But still!
What’s ironic about this is it wasn’t the first snap that went over Coffey’s on the night. This one from earlier was just as bad, but Coffey did impressively get this one away, too.
On the season, Coffey is averaging 47 yards per punt. Seriously though, he should get some kind of award for getting both of these punts off. I can’t even imagine having the sense to not only retrieve a punt if it sailed over my head but manage to punt it away with a bunch of people coming towards me.
