Lane Kiffin still sends texts to Nick Saban, even though he never gets a response

Persistence is key!

Don’t ever stop believing, Coach Kiffin. Apparently FAU head coach Lane Kiffin, who served as Alabama’s offensive coordinator from 2013 to 2015, still sends text messages to Tide head coach Nick Saban. Saban doesn’t ever respond, though. In Chris Low’s ESPN’s profile of Kiffin, he points out that Saban doesn’t text anyone:

Kiffin says he still sends text messages to Saban, though Saban doesn’t text back — with anyone. However, Kiffin has conversed with Saban’s wife, Terry, via text message.

Kiffin most recently took one of Saban’s rants, one about the media being like “rat poison” to his team, and he began using the phrase himself for his Owls team, which is 8-3 on the season.

But wait, Saban isn’t the only person Kiffin texts!

The Owls head coach, who’s known for being a massive troll to former places he’s coached at, has Jon Gruden’s number, too. The former NFL coach has been rumored to be considered for the open Tennessee job, and Kiffin told Low he recently reached out to him about the job:

Speaking of Tennessee, Kiffin is well aware of the Vols fans’ obsession with Jon Gruden, and in vintage Kiffin fashion, he doesn’t mind fanning the flames. Kiffin and Gruden text some, and Kiffin recently forwarded an article to Gruden that said Kiffin and Gruden should be the Vols’ top two choices.

Stay golden, coach.
