Even after a loss to Auburn, the No. 7 Georgia Bulldogs’ national title hopes are still alive. But before the Bulldogs can face either Alabama or Auburn in the SEC Championship Game, they’ll have to get past a familiar rival first.

Georgia’s College Football Playoff hopes rest on a win in Atlanta.

Georgia will travel west to Atlanta for a cross-conference showdown with the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets to determine the Peach State’s top college football team. The two meet Saturday at noon E.T. The game will be broadcast on ABC (live stream).
Georgia Tech will be playing for bowl eligibility in its regular season finale. The Yellow Jackets have a marquee win over Virginia Tech this season but have otherwise struggled against quality teams. Beating the Bulldogs wouldn’t just be a shocking rivalry game upset — it would also extend Tech’s season by a full month.

Georgia at Georgia Tech news:
- Georgia coach Kirby Smart isn’t taking a final-week non-conference game against a .500 team for granted.
Kirby Smart held his customary Monday press conference this afternoon with topics including how Georgia will handle Tech’s cut blocking, why the ‘Dawgs have experienced so much success in Atlanta, and what the seniors who chose to come back for this season have meant to the team.
That is just one example of an incredibly poor showing for the Jackets in a game that would’ve propelled Tech to bowl eligibility for the second-straight season had it not ended with an embarrassing 43 to 20 blowout at the hands of Duke. Instead, Paul Johnson’s Yellow Jackets must either compete for sixth win against top-10 UGA next weekend or hope for mercy from the NCAA in the form of a bowl waiver at 5-6.
- Georgia, on the other hand, beat the brakes off a pretty good Kentucky team.
Sony Michel and Nick Chubb finished their last game in Sanford Stadium with a bang. On a Senior Day honoring a class that’s seen its share if change in Athens the graduating tailback tandem did essentially what they’ve done since the beginning, combining for five touchdowns in a 42-13 thumping of Kentucky (7-4, 4-4 SEC).
When Georgia Tech traveled out east for last year’s edition of Clean, Old Fashioned Hate the Yellow Jackets returned home with a victory after staging a fourth quarter comeback. Losing to Georgia Tech did not sit well with that school out east, supposedly leading several players to turn down NFL riches for a chance to avenge their hedges.
Whose high-powered running attack will prevail?
Georgia Tech famously uses the triple option to grind down opposing defenses. The Bulldogs also rely on a trio of elite backs to power their offense — but in a more traditional way. Passing will be at a premium in Atlanta as two teams that combine for nearly 587 yards of rushing offense per game will wage a ground war in the final week of the regular season.
Georgia at Georgia Tech prediction:
The Yellow Jackets are a legitimate nonconference challenge for Georgia, but the Bulldogs won’t get caught looking ahead to the SEC title game. Georgia should handle its in-state rival.
