Texas A&M vs. LSU 2017 live stream: Time, TV schedule, how to watch online

Is Saturday Kevin Sumlin’s last stand with Texas A&M?

The Texas A&M Aggies are going to a bowl game and will finish 2017 with at least a .500 record in SEC play, but that may not be enough for head coach Kevin Sumlin to stay in College Station. Another underwhelming year for a program with high expectations could lead to Sumlin’s ouster — but beating the No. 18 LSU Tigers in the final week of the regular season may be the next step in securing his position for 2018. The Aggies and Tigers square off Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET. The game will be broadcast on the SEC Network (live stream).

A&M’s season began with a mind-boggling loss to UCLA in which the Aggies blew a 44-10 third-quarter lead. They’ve evened out since then, but the program’s seven wins have all come against underwhelming competition. Beating the Tigers would fix that problem.

LSU recovered from its own early-season embarrassment, toppling Auburn just two weeks after a home loss to Troy. Ed Orgeron’s team has won five of its last six games, with the only blemish coming against Alabama. Another win Saturday would help the team stake its claim as the nation’s top three-loss team.

Texas A&M at LSU news:

Texas A&M is expected to fire head football coach Kevin Sumlin after its game against LSU, Brent Zwerneman of the Houston Chronicle reports, adding that a win wouldn’t save his job (which would make the second time in three years that a head coach was set to be fired right after this game), as well as the following:

And a game like this one is a classic garbage-in, garbage-out scenario. Sure, the box score is a mere record of what happened, but everything in there has to be viewed through the prism of the weather report. We can pour through the numbers, but the one that matters is most is the one that represents the grain of salt:

A&M’s defense gave up 324 yards in the first half. It seemed like Jordan Ta’amu couldnt miss either running or throwing the ball. But Chavis went in to the locker room, made some adjustments, and his defense came out with their hair on fire in the second half. Chavis’s squad only gave up 60 ish yards in the second half. Think about that...from 324 to 60. That’s pretty dang impressive.

Will LSU even need Danny Etling to show up at quarterback?

Etling has been a grab bag under center for LSU, avoiding turnovers but also failing to create big plays for his offense. That hasn’t been a problem in 2017 thanks to a powerful of running backs giving him support. Derrius Guice has looked every bit an all-conference runner after gaining more than 1,000 yards in 10 games this season. Darrel Williams has been almost as good, rushing for more than five yards per carry in relief of the Tigers’ starter.

Texas A&M at LSU prediction:

The Aggies struggle against good teams — and sometimes against bad ones. LSU fits firmly in the former category, and the Tigers’ peaking defense should be able to hold down A&M en route to a home victory.
