The No. 4 team in the nation, the Oklahoma Sooners, will play host to the West Virginia Mountaineers to close out their regular season on Saturday. The game will begin at 3:45 p.m. ET and will be broadcast on ESPN (livestream via WatchESPN).

West Virginia was in the hunt for the Big 12 title, but a loss to Texas in its last game put an end to that. The Mountaineers are going to make it to a bowl game, but they can make it a much better one if they manage to beat Oklahoma. That’s a hugely tall order, however.

The Sooners already have a spot in the Big 12 Championship a week from now against TCU, and given that they opened as 21-point favorites over West Virginia, it’s easy to think they could be overlooking their opponents. Oklahoma wants to increase its chances to make it into the College Football Playoff, and the Sooners need a pair of wins to do that.

Oklahoma is 10-1 on the season, 7-1 in the conference and would love to go into the Playoff at 12-1.

Saturday’s game will feature a pair of backup quarterbacks after Oklahoma benched Baker Mayfield and stripped him of his captaincy following his taunting and crotch-grabbing during the Kansas game. He will likely play, however.

West Virginia will be starting Chris Chugunov due to starter Will Grier suffering a hand injury against Texas.

West Virginia vs. Oklahoma prediction:

The Sooners should win this game on all fronts. Defensively, they have more than enough to limit West Virginia. Offensively, Mayfield will be looking to redeem himself and draw attention away from his antics by forcing everyone to concentrate on his high level of play. Oklahoma wins this one however it wants.
