This game finally ended around what would’ve been 2:35 a.m. ET, if not for Daylight Saving Time ending, nearly four hours after it kicked off. USC won, 49-35, and seized full control of the Pac-12 South. Good for USC.
Arizona-USC got dragged out by Pac-12 refs, and it annoyed everybody
The game was midway through the third quarter at 1 a.m.!

What follows is the mood of the college football internet late in the game, when officials were breaking after seemingly every play to debate the sun, moon, and stars.
Hello there, it is 1:34 a.m. on the East Coast as I’m writing it and the Saturday night game between the USC Trojans and the Arizona Wildcats is still in the freaking third quarter. Why? Because the Pac-12 refs calling this game have made an effort to extend this game as long as possible.
Seriously, there have already been 13 penalties, and pretty much all of them have felt like they’ve taken several minutes to sort out between the officials. At least once, they’ve huddled just to announce no penalties at all.
It became so bad, the USC fans sitting in the stands threw yellow towels to mock how long the officiating was taking.
A lot of tired people around the country, myself included, took to Twitter to vent their frustrations on how long this all was taking.
The third quarter finally ended at 1:45 a.m., so we’ll see if the refs can get their stuff together in the fourth quarter. Please let us go to bed, refs, we’re all begging you.
