Georgia’s going to the College Football Playoff for the first time in the four-year history of the event. The No. 6 Dawgs are blowing out No. 2 Auburn at the SEC Championship on Saturday. This 64-yard run by true freshman back D’Andre Swift was the moment that effectively clinched the game and UGA’s Playoff ticket, setting the score at 28-7 in the fourth quarter:

If you’d like to watch that carry with sound:
It’s Georgia’s 13th SEC title and the Dawgs’ first since 2005. It draws them even with Tennessee for the second-most titles in league history behind Alabama’s 26. This was the team’s sixth appearance and third win in the modern SEC Championship Game.
Auburn was the best team and hottest story in the country in November. Just to get here, the Tigers had to put that drubbing on UGA at Jordan-Hare Stadium and then beat Alabama in a shockingly dominant Iron Bowl effort. The Tigers entered on a roll, and this was their first game since a loss to LSU on Oct. 14 that wasn’t an AU romp.
But Georgia had marked this date for weeks, since it clinched a down SEC East on Nov. 4. The Bulldogs had gotten humbled at Auburn but spent the rest of their year mostly destroying teams. Smart’s reload of the program sped up, making this the biggest Georgia football game in several years. And the Dawgs came through.
Auburn is likely destined for another New Year’s Six bowl game. That could be the Peach Bowl at the same Atlanta mega-stadium that hosted this game.
