Where is the Alamo Bowl, and how can I watch?

Stadium and city: Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas

Date and time: Dec. 28, 9 p.m. ET

TV and streaming: ESPN and WatchESPN

What should I know about the two teams in the Alamo Bowl?

Stanford (9-4, 7-2 in Pac-12)

The Cardinal got an incredible season out of running back Bryce Love, a great talent who happens to fit perfectly behind Stanford’s meaty offensive line. Stanford took a couple of ugly early losses, to USC and San Diego State, that precluded the Cardinal from serious Playoff contention this season. But they’re good, and they’re likely to be really good in 2018.

They’ll build some momentum toward a potentially big year with weeks of bowl practices. This marks nine straight seasons in a bowl for Stanford, including all seven under coach David Shaw. The streak started under Jim Harbaugh, who made an NFL stop before landing at Michigan.

TCU (10-3, 7-2 in Big 12)

The Horned Frogs reemerged this season as a national title threat, though those dreams ended when Baker Mayfield and Oklahoma destroyed them in Week 11. Nonetheless, the Frogs have one of the best defenses in the country. Gary Patterson has built a unit that’s almost impossible to run the ball effectively against, and the offense is still plenty exciting despite being less efficient.

TCU has missed a bowl game just twice since 1997, a run of 18 appearances in 20 years. This year’s team staged a strong bounceback from an uncharacteristic 6-7 season in 2016, and the Frogs should be a threat in the Big 12 for a while.
