What should I know about the two teams in the Citrus Bowl?
Notre Dame (9-3)
The Irish had a resurgence this year after their 4-8 disaster in 2016. They won seven games in a row after a Week 2 loss to Georgia and were third in the Playoff ranking when Miami humbled them in Week 11. So this season’s not ending with a national title, but Notre Dame has reestablished itself as a force to be reckoned with heading into next season.
This team has one of the best running games in the country, though it repeatedly ran into trouble when it came up against the best of the best defenses. Still, the Irish are quite dangerous.

LSU (9-3, 6-2 in SEC)
The Tigers didn’t get over their Alabama hump, losing to the Crimson Tide for the sixth season in a row. They also lost to the Sun Belt’s Troy Trojans at home, and they didn’t really threaten in the SEC West. Their offense wasn’t very good, and the defense was fine but not suffocating enough to make this into the team it could’ve been. Injuries – including to running back Derrius Guice and edge rusher Arden Key – didn’t help matters at all in Ed Orgeron’s first full year on the job.
But LSU’s back in a bowl anyway, for the 18th season in a row. It’s easy to take for granted, but it’s still impressive to have postseason football every year.
