What should I know about the two teams in the Pinstripe Bowl?
Iowa (7-5, 4-5 in Big Ten)
The Hawkeyes were up and down this year. The primary “up” was the day they inexplicably scored 55 points on Ohio State. They also took then-unbeaten Penn State to the wire before losing on a walk-off touchdown pass as time expired, and they were decent in a few other games. But Iowa also had drab losses to the likes of good teams such as Michigan State, Northwestern, and Wisconsin, and so-so teams like Purdue. They’re hard to be excited about.
Iowa has bowled in all but two seasons since 2001, Kirk Ferentz’ third as coach. This season is the fifth in a row that the Hawkeyes will conclude by bowling.

Boston College (7-5, 4-4 in ACC)
The Eagles are still terrible on offense, as they’ve been most of the time under Steve Addazio. But their defense is dependable as ever, even if it’s not as good as it was under the command of former coordinator Don Brown. BC got wins this year against Louisville and Florida State, not to mention a plucky NIU team. They’re bowling for the fourth time in five years.
Did you know Boston College has missed a bowl game just three times since 1999? The Eagles aren’t exciting, and their offensive challenges sometimes make them a punchline. But this program has gotten really good at being passable, and there’s something to say for that.
