What should I know about the two teams in the Sun Bowl?
Arizona State (7-5, 6-3 in Pac-12)
The Sun Devils were two wins better this year than in 2016 when they closed the season on a six-game losing streak and finished a win shy of bowl eligibility.
ASU notched a Territorial Cup win against rival Arizona in the last game of the regular season and had a pretty good offense this year, which should make it a tough out in the bowl. None of this was enough to save Todd Graham, obviously, as the coach got fired after the Cup win over Arizona.
This marks ASU’s sixth bowl bid in seven seasons. The Sun Devils have a ways to go to get back to their 10-win selves from 2013 and ‘14, but this year marked some progress.

NC State (8-4, 6-2 in ACC)
The dream season that looked possible for the Wolfpack after they upset Louisville in October and moved to 5-1 didn’t materialize. Back-to-back losses to Notre Dame and Clemson ruined the Pack’s Playoff and then ACC Atlantic hopes. But this team still had a nice year and was lots of fun to watch on both sides of the ball. The Pack have skill-position weapons on offense and one of the best defensive lines in the country, and they’ve been competitive all year.
