One of college football’s greatest traditions includes the relationship between the state of Tennessee and Lane Kiffin. The former Vols head coach who left Knoxville after the lone 2009 season hasn’t been remembered too fondly ever since.
The state of Tennessee made fun of Lane Kiffin with a boring video about road salt
The Lane Kiffin vs. Tennessee saga continues.

The most recent development with this friendship is how Tennessee’s Department of Transportation made fun of Kiffin’s awkwardly unenthusiastic FAU hype video. Kiffin told reporters after signing FAU’s best-ever recruiting class that the video, which FAU released but later deleted, was shot poorly on purpose to garner attention.
Mission accomplished, Kiffin. Here’s the Tennessee transportation department’s own boring hype video, which talks about winter being (in an incredibly monotone voice) “an exciting time.” Road salt is discussed, too.
We’ve seen non-sports figures in the state of Tennessee take shots at Kiffin before. In 2014, a political ad in Tennessee once compared an election opponent to him.
It said that the candidate, like Kiffin, “made a lot of big promises to Tennesseans” and didn’t live up to their word.
It’s important to note that Kiffin hasn’t quite stopped trolling Tennessee basically since the day he left Knoxville. For instance, there was that time he WORE A FREAKING ORANGE TIE before Alabama’s 2015 game against the Vols.
After Alabama crushed Tennessee 49-10, he gave some Tennessee fans a souvenir, because, of course he did.
And in when he returned to Knoxville for the first time in 2014 as Bama’s OC, he gave some booing UT fans what looked like either finger guns or a thumbs up when they booed him.
We’ll see if Kiffin has a response to this latest jab taken by Tennessee. Knowing Kiffin, you can almost count on it coming.
