Clemson put Alabama to rest in its graveyard for ranked teams

There are 32 tombstones that sit near Clemson’s practice facility.

It’s been three month’s since Clemson’s 35-31 victory over Alabama in the College Football Playoff National Championship. Since then, the school hasn’t hesitated to celebrate the win, posting highway road signs in South Carolina commemorating the victory, and referencing the rapper Future’s supposed shoutout to the Tigers’ championship.

Another significant addition to the commemoration was made on Wednesday, with the tombstone of the No. 1-ranked Crimson Tide being added to the football program’s “Graveyard,” which features tombstones of ranked teams that Clemson has beaten on the road.

The cemetery sits outside of Clemson’s practice facility. In addition to Alabama’s tombstone, there were three others added to pay tribute to the road victories the Tigers had last season, including over No. 12 Florida State, the ACC title win against No. 23 Virginia Tech in Orlando, and the 31-0 victory over No. 3 Ohio State in the Fiesta Bowl.

According to the Clemson school website, there are 32 tombstones in the graveyard, which represent a victory over a ranked opponent on the road. In addition to the four added from last season, Tigers head coach Dabo Swinney’s teams have added 13 tombstones to the graveyard.
