This little tweet is a reminder of how tense the Florida-LSU rivalry’s gotten

It’s been over six months since the scheduling drama between LSU and Florida played out. Last October, the game, which was to be played in Gainesville, was postponed due to the impending threat of Hurricane Matthew that was forecasted to batter the state of Florida. Florida cited that safety concerns prompted the decision to postpone the game

After weeks of public back and forth, feelings of bad blood between the programs, and even Florida being accused by Fox Sports’ Clay Travis of “being scared” to play LSU, the game was rescheduled to Nov. 19 at LSU. The Gators defeated the Tigers 16-10 on the road, and clinched the SEC East with the victory.

On Saturday, LSU’s spring game was called due to lightning in the area around Tiger Stadium in Baton Rogue. It was moved inside to the Tigers’ indoor practice facility, and finished there.

Florida had a clever response to LSU’s tweet about the game not being continued at the stadium.

This was extremely well-done, Florida football social media manager. Florida’s victory over LSU was that much sweeter last October, and the team celebrated by playing LSU’s hype rap song in the locker room. Even head coach Jim McElwain took a swing at LSU’s handling of everything after the big win.

“They got some guts, they got some pride,” head coach Jim McElwain said after the win. “They were called out. And you know what amazes me? People call people out when there’s actual tragedy happening. Unbelievable to me.”

Defensive lineman Caleb Brantley, wide receiver Antonio Callaway, defensive back Chauncey Gardner and running back Jordan Scarlett channeled their coach’s words as well.

With the game’s rescheduling last year and it being moved away from Gainesville, 2017 and 2018’s games will both be played in Gainesville to make up for Florida losing the home game. 2017’s game is set for Saturday, Oct. 7. You can bet it will be a heated affair.
