Penn State’s kicker, Joey Julius, who goes by the nickname “Big Toe,” is undergoing treatment for an eating disorder, which has kept him away from the team during spring practice. According to a Facebook post from Julius himself, he has entered treatment in St. Louis, Mo.

I have been struggling over the last couple months with my eating disorder. It got to the point where I had to return to St. Louis to seek further treatment at the McCallum place. Recovery is a wonderful and beautiful thing that I am working on returning too. For anyone out there that has similar struggles I hope you too can seek help in some way. Your feelings should be completely validated and I wish you all the best in your search for recovery. Just as an update I am doing well and the treatment is helping.
Julius, who is listed as 5’10, 258 pounds in his Nittany Lions’ bio, first revealed that he received treatment for binge-eating last October. According to ESPN he entered treatment in St. Louis last summer.
He was admitted to an eating disorder center in St. Louis from May 9-July 26.
“Due to my increase in not only weight but also depression and anxiety, my team physicians started to notice not only a change in my overall happiness but also my performance as a normal human being,” Julius wrote. “Throughout this whole process I learned a lot about myself. I learned that for the last 11 years of my life, I have suffered through a disorder known as binge eating disorder.”
Julius was mostly on kickoff duties last season, and he became known for laying out opponents out during them.
And there was also this hit he had on an unsuspecting Kent State player on a kickoff.
There were also moments like him doing The Whip on the sideline that made him one of our favorite college football players.
