We really hope UNLV actually plays roulette to decide uniform numbers

$1,000 on black says a DB or WR on the roster wants the No. 1.

Assigning numbers is a tricky proposition in college football, with 85 scholarship athletes, walk-ons, and only 99 numbers to put on jerseys.

That’s why college teams are allowed to double up as long as the players aren’t on the field at the same time. But UNLV has found a workaround by leveraging its Las Vegas brand to the full extent.

We’ve all seen the “This Is SportsCenter” commercials, and the Runnin’ Rebels channel the classic ads to have some social media fun. It’s honestly a pretty ingenious idea if actually put into practice, and can help solves some locker room debates.

They did another with an Elvis impersonator in August, as well.

Besides the roulette table, UNLV’s come into some sweet new digs lately with the new Raiders stadium that will soon be Las Vegas’ newest coming attraction. Combine that with a big facilities upgrade, and the Runnin’ Rebels are on a bit of a hot streak off the field.

Maybe it’s time to hit the casino floor.
