It’s the offseason, and rival programs sometimes just can’t help but take jabs at one another long before the actual games get going. Miami Hurricanes head coach Mark Richt made a slight towards Clemson, and specifically the program’s new football facility. The project, which was completed this past January, cost $55 million, and includes a slide — yes, like those playground slides — in the new building.
Mark Richt fires at Clemson for having a playground slide in football facility
Yes, let’s fight over slides!

Richt, when accepting a key to the city of Miami from city officials, mentioned how Miami doesn’t have to “build some slide” to be successful recruiting.
“It’s like no other place in America,” Richt said via the Palm Beach Post. “Even in recruiting, we can sell things that no one else can sell. They can build all they want. They can have all they want. I mean, there’s schools building slides and playgrounds in their building, just so they can have fun. I said, we’ve got the beach. We don’t have to build some slide to have fun.”
Clemson’s new facility also includes a putt-putt golf course, bowling lanes, a horseshoe pit, and gas grills.
The ironic thing about RIcht’s comments is that Miami is currently without even an indoor practice facility, but the program is getting one. According to the Palm Beach Post, ground was broken for it last month, and it will be completed in August 2018. It costs $34 million, but it won’t have a slide like Clemson’s.
We’ll see if anyone at Clemson has anything to say about Richt’s comments. My guess is they’re too busy playing on that slide though, to be honest.
