The Wisconsin Badgers have overcome slow starts in their first two games to win and maintain their top-10 ranking — but those were against Utah State and Florida Atlantic. On Saturday, Paul Chryst’s team will face a step up in competition when it takes on the BYU Cougars in Provo. The game kicks off at 3:30 p.m. ET and will be broadcast live on ABC (live stream).

The Badgers and Cougars meet in Provo.

The Badgers trailed USU early and struggled to put the Owls away, but they still came away with authoritative wins to begin 2017 at 2-0. On Saturday, they’ll venture outside America’s Dairyland for the first time this year for the biggest game of their non-conference schedule. The Cougars, however, aren’t the marquee opponent Chryst had hoped for. BYU is just 1-2 this season with that lone victory coming over FCS Portland State.

Wisconsin vs. BYU news:
“The one thing that sticks out to me is a front seven that’s seniors and juniors, and I think they’ve got a good system and they understand it,” Chryst said. “I think they have good skill in the secondary, but they play hard. I think they got good players and a couple of guys that I think are physical players”
- Jonathan Taylor looks like the future of Wisconsin football. Here’s why.
“I was just making sure I was ready,” Taylor said. “I knew that if we went 21 or 12 [personnel], that they were going to need me to step up, so that was my main focus going into this game, making sure I stepped up.”
In demonstrative fashion, Taylor did. The 5’11, 214-pound back rushed for 223 yards on 26 carries and three touchdowns in the Wisconsin Badgers’ 31–14 win over the Florida Atlantic Owls on Saturday.
- BYU lost its rivalry game against Utah, but there’s a silver lining in that disappointing defeat.
Sure, it sucks to lose to your rival (again), but there’s no use dwelling on it with the no. 10 Wisconsin Badgers visiting LaVell Edwards Stadium Saturday. A brutal September schedule means the Cougars have another opportunity to get a meaningful win!
- But mostly, the BYU offense was just plain bad against Utah.
But the Cougar offense, which had shown signs of life with a touchdown drive only scant minutes before, reverted to its old form when it mattered most. The receivers caught a case of the dropsies, with two of Mangum’s best passes of the night ending up on the turf, and BYU’s comeback bid ended in an impotent fluttering toss by Mangum while trying desperately to avoid getting sacked, injuring himself in the process.
Wisconsin vs. BYU prediction:
injuries have thinned out the Wisconsin linebacking corps and left its defense vulnerable, but the Cougars aren’t the team to derail the Badgers’ playoff hopes. BYU has scored only 13 points total against two FBS opponents, being handcuffed by LSU and Utah the past two weeks. The Badgers have the firepower to outgun a weak BYU offense, even on the road in Provo.
